Questions
Choosing a preschool is a big decision, especially when considering a cooperative program. Here are answers to some of the questions families often ask about Seal Beach Playgroup.

Seal Beach Playgroup serves children ages 2.9-5 through our Junior and Senior classes. For the Junior Class, children must turn 3 by December 1 of the school year.
Families participate in classroom days, attend parent meetings, help with scheduled school cleanups, take on a parent job and support the school’s fundraising efforts. Parent jobs may include board positions, scheduling, making playdough, helping with events and other roles that keep the co-op running smoothly.
We aim to keep classroom participation to approximately 1–2 days per month for Junior Class families and 3–4 days per month for Senior Class families. The exact number may vary depending on enrollment and class size.

Yes. Families pay a registration fee, supply fee and refundable security deposit (based on good standing when leaving). Each family also has an annual $650 fundraising commitment. Fundraising helps cover costs beyond tuition so SBPG can provide special experiences and resources while keeping the school affordable.
Children should be independently potty trained before beginning school.
Families are encouraged to tour the school and learn about the co-op commitment before applying. Applications are submitted through our online form, and enrollment is based on available classroom space.
Yes! We encourage prospective families to visit, meet our teacher and experience the school before applying.
Families are responsible for arranging a substitute or trading participation days with another parent when possible. Specific procedures are shared with enrolled families.
At SBPG, families are active participants rather than simply dropping their children off. Parents work alongside our teacher, learn about child development and help support the school. This shared responsibility creates deeper trust, stronger relationships and a close-knit community for both children and parents.
No. Children attend only on their designated class days. Junior Class students attend two days per week, and Senior Class students attend three days per week. A Junior Class child cannot add a third weekly school day.
SBPG’s two-year program was created to give children a natural progression toward kindergarten. The Junior year introduces classroom routines, friendships and learning through play, while the Senior year builds greater independence, confidence and kindergarten readiness. The two-class structure also allows children to grow alongside many of the same friends, creating a strong sense of connection and community before they move on to elementary school.
